What to do on Jummah Day?
Jummah (Friday) is a special day for Muslims — kind of like a weekly Eid. Here's what you should ideally do to make the most of it:
Before Jummah Prayer:
1. Take a Ghusl (ritual bath) – Sunnah to purify yourself.
2. Wear clean, nice clothes – Dress well, ideally in white.
3. Apply perfume – For men; avoid strong scents in public for women.
4. Read Surah Al-Kahf – Highly recommended between Thursday night and Friday before Maghrib.
5. Make lots of du'a – There's a special hour on Friday when du'as are accepted (many scholars say it's the last part of the day before Maghrib).
6. Send Salawat (blessings) upon the Prophet (ﷺ) – The more, the better.
At the Mosque:
1. Go early to the masjid – The earlier you go, the greater the reward.
2. Pray two rak’ahs upon entering – Tahiyyat al-Masjid.
3. Listen attentively to the Khutbah (sermon) – Don’t talk or even respond to others during it.
4. Pray the Jummah prayer (2 rak’ah) – Replaces Dhuhr on Fridays.
After the Prayer:
1. Pray Sunnah prayers if you can – Usually 4 before and 2-4 after, depending on the school of thought.
2. Make du’a – Especially during the last hour before Maghrib.
3. Continue remembering Allah (dhikr), reciting Qur’an, doing good deeds.
